Awakened echoes between being and merely appearing
Skin is the largest organ we possess—nearly two square meters covered in receptors designed to perceive touch. So much space for feeling, and so much space we tend to waste by hiding it beneath clothing. We often limit touch to the surfaces of our hands. That is where our perception of the world and our exchange of touch concentrate, even though it frequently becomes a mere formality or automatic habit.
C-tactile (CT) fibers respond to a very specific kind of touch: slow stroking movements (between 1 and 10 cm per second). Signals from these fibers travel directly to the brain regions responsible for processing emotion. Such gentle, deliberate touch soothes our nervous system. For highly sensitive or neurodivergent individuals, it is the most precious source of regulation.
